Join the millions of people who have not only found relief from back, neck and headache pain through chiropractic, but also experienced improved overall health with chiropractic’s natural, drug-free approach to health care.

1.  Why Choose It?

Chiropractic is the method of natural healing most chosen by those seeking complementary/alternative health care for acute and chronic conditions.

While you may first visit a chiropractor to relieve pain in the lower back or to treat sciatica, neck pain, whiplash or headache, you will find that a chiropractor views you as a whole person and not the sum of your parts. A chiropractor will work in partnership with you to ensure your optimal health and wellness.

Triggers Your Body to Heal

Chiropractors recognize that many factors affect your health, including exercise, nutrition, sleep, environment and heredity. Chiropractic focuses on maintaining your health naturally to help your body resist disease, rather than simply treating the symptoms of disease.

Starts with a Thorough Evaluation

When you visit a Doctor of Chiropractic, you will be evaluated using time-honored methods, including consultation, case history, physical examination, laboratory analysis and X-ray examination. In addition, you will receive a careful chiropractic structural examination, with particular attention paid to the spine.

Involves no Drugs or Surgery

A broad range of techniques are used to locate, analyze and gently correct vertebral misalignments (subluxations) in the spine. Chiropractors may use manual adjustment, electrical muscular stimulation, ultrasound or massage. But they never use pharmaceutical drugs or invasive surgery. Chiropractic is a natural method of healing that stimulates the body’s communication system to work more effectively to initiate, control and coordinate the various functions of the cells, organs and systems of the body.

Partners with other Healthcare Professionals

Doctors of chiropractic work in tandem with other healthcare professionals. If your condition requires attention from another branch of the healthcare profession, that recommendation or referral will be made.

2.  What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a non-invasive, effective and drug free approach to body balance and health. It has been safely practiced for 113 years and continues to positively affect the health and wellbeing of people of all ages, from infants to the elderly.

The brain communicates with the nervous system to co-ordinate your bodily functions from digestion, to breathing to immune response. The nervous system is just like any communication system; it sends messages. That is how it balances, heals and regulates mechanisms in your body.

Vertebral Subluxation

Vertebral subluxation (spinal misalignment) blocks your nerve passageways. Physical, chemical or emotional stresses produce a defensive posture. Muscles contract locking spinal joints that pinch or irritate nearby nerves. This sets the stage for disease and ill health with your spine, muscles and internal organs. Most spinal misalignments are minor and painless and people are unaware of them, or they can be major and hurt very much. Although minor they can affect your spinal mobility, the capacity of your muscles and organs to function optimally and hence your overall balance and health.

3.  What Causes a Subluxation?

Spinal subluxations (misalignments) are caused by exposure to different types of daily stress which can upset the delicate balance within the body.

Mental Stress
Includes stress from relationships and work resulting in physiological changes such as heightened blood pressure, blood glucose and heart rate.

Physical Stress
This can include falls, injuries, poor posture, pregnancy, child birth (for both mother and baby),whiplash, sporting knocks & accident trauma.

Chemical Stress
This can include any toxins ingested into the body from pollutants to excessive sugar, alcohol and drugs.

We honor and trust in your body’s innate wisdom and ability to heal itself naturally in awe- inspiring ways, given the right conditions. That’s where Chiropractic comes in.

4. Is Chiropractic Scientific?

Given the education and training required to become a chiropractor, it is illogical to say that chiropractic is unscientific.  Over the past 113 years, many studies have been conducted by medical communities on chiropractic, and it has been found to be completely safe and effective when applied by a skilled professional.  Nervana supports the Australian Spinal Research Foundation as its charity of choice as its objective is to fund research into the affects that chiropractic has on human health and wellness.

5.  Is Chiropractic Risky?

Many people who do not fully understand chiropractic may actually fear it, not knowing that more conventional alternatives can be riskier.  For example, pain medications such as aspirin and paracetamol do not actually eliminate the source of the pain, but only relieve it by temporarily numbing the nervous system. They also don’t improve the function of the spine nor improve nerve function.  Furthermore, these medicines are associated with diseases of the liver and many other medical problems.  Let’s remember that poor medical diagnosis and drug interaction is the third most common cause of death in our society today, behind heart disease and cancer.  Surgery is an even greater risk because it is invasive and without guarantees. In fact many people seek chiropractic care between 4-5 years after spinal surgery, at that time wishing they had exhausted all other conservative treatments before surgery.  In comparison, chiropractic is undoubtedly the safest and most effective way to manage spinal problems today.

6. Does Chiropractic Hurt?

Another reason people may look past chiropractic is the misconception that it hurts.  This is untrue. Our doctors are highly trained to handle elderly patients as well as babies, and are known for performing techniques in the gentlest and safest manner possible. Our doctors are behind over 10,000 safe and effective adjustments each year. Our doctors have been in practice for years without incidents.  In our office we believe that any techniques applied should be both comfortable and effective at whatever stage of life you are.

7. Do Medical Doctors Discourage Chiropractic Treatment?

There was a time when doctors recommended their patients to stick to conventional treatments, but this has changed much today.  Many doctors have opened up to the scientific benefits of chiropractic, and will not hesitate in making referrals to chiropractors when needed.  These are doctors who prioritize the welfare of their patients, and will not stop them from exploring chiropractic if it is the most appropriate treatment.  The prejudice against chiropractic has been replaced by acceptance, although this took quite a while to happen.  As more patients seek alternatives to conventional drugs and surgery, more doctors are referring them to chiropractors as well, especially to us!

8. Once I start Going, Will I Have to Keep Going?

Some people do not like the idea of coming for chiropractic treatment regularly to enjoy its benefits. Can you really expect to be healthy for life after having only been for one run? Will there ever be a good time to stop eating healthy foods when you want to stay fit? Considering the various strains we put ourselves under as part of normal daily life, we need to constantly check on our bodies in order to maintain good health.  That is a fact none of us can escape.  When you start experiencing the effects of chiropractic, you will likely want to continue seeing your chiropractor so you can maintain your healthy state.  By keeping your spine and nervous system in check, your body will make optimal use of the healthy lifestyle practices that you employ.  If you’re struggling to improve the quality of your life, frequent contact with a chiropractor will ensure that you will have ongoing support and expert lifestyle advice and resources on hand.
